Cut Bank Animal Shelter is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Contributions to CBAS are tax-deductible.

Many folks are asking for examples of things anyone can do – like friends and family.

* Bake some cat or dog treats and give them to your local animal shelter

* Take an elderly neighbor’s dog for a walk, or help them groom their dog or cat

* Spend an hour or two at your local shelter or rescue group. Pet the cats, clean litter boxes, spend time with some homeless pets who are least likely to be adopted right away

* Make a donation to a local animal shelter

Imagine what a difference we can make if, this week, thousands of us unite to carry out an act of kindness to an animal.

We can not continue these and other spay/neuter campaigns that have prevented uncountable births were it not for your support.

Because you’ve shown that you care about the well- being of animals and about the overpopulation problem, we hope that we can count on your continuing support—support that enables us to keep fighting for spay/neuter.

Please make your tax-deductible donation today.

PENNIES FOR PETS:

Would you like a simple and easy way to donate to the Cut Bank Animal Shelter?

Start saving your pennies (and other change) for pets. Pick up loose change around the house, put it in a jar, and save it for the Cut Bank Animal Shelter. Retrieve the change from the bottom of your purse, from the kitchen table, from your pockets, from the washing machine, from the pockets of clothes to be washed, from the crevices in your furniture, and from the floor of your car. You could also keep the pennies that you used to put in the penny container at the check out. Don’t miss any spot, and you won't miss the change.

These pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters add up to over $100 a year. With $100 a year per family, if only 100 of you contributed over and above your average donation, this would be an additional $10,000 per year for the shelter.

Try saving your change for the Cut Bank Animal Shelter today!

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION:
Touch the Life of Just One Shelter Pet!

Volunteer

Volunteers are invaluable to shelters and rescues to maintain the everyday operations of the organization. Individuals don't have to volunteer 30+ hours a week -- even an hour or two per week helps the animals. Of course, more hours are always much appreciated!

Volunteers may assist as dog walkers or socialize with the cats -- even cleaning out a litter pan or sweeping the area is greatly appreciated. Each volunteer quickly learns that their efforts – large or small – are "repaid" tenfold in animal love.

Foster

Foster care enables shelters and rescues – large and small -- to care for the animals that come to them, without having to euthanize for lack of "space" within a facility. Yes, it can be challenging – watching and cleaning up after five kitties housed in a spare bathroom isn't glamorous – but the smiles and laughter experienced make it all worthwhile.

At certain times of the year, organizations will be overrun with kittens and puppies. If foster "parents" can take a litter for a few weeks until they are old enough to be spayed, neutered and adopted out (approximately 8 weeks or 2 lbs.), then these innocent creatures gain a second chance at life. Without these caring volunteers, many of the organizations would be unable to care for the incredible influx of animals during breeding season.

There are also adult pets that temporarily need a foster home where they can recuperate after a surgery or illness, after which they can be adopted out to a new loving family.

Donate

Many shelter and rescue organizations rely on the kindness and generosity of community donations to help keep their doors open for needy pets in their area. Even many of the government-funded animal control agencies are under-funded and utilize donations in their quest to save more animals each year.

We encourage you to support these organizations with any size contribution -- whether it is a small monthly donation, one larger sum, or even writing them into your will.

Spay or Neuter Your Pet

Overpopulation of unwanted pets is a serious issue – and one that could be easily remedied with spaying/neutering of pets. For every kitten or puppy born outside a shelter and sold or given away, a kitten, cat, puppy or dog inside a shelter has one less potential home. With this sad fact in mind, we encourage each of you to spay or neuter your pet.

Adopt

When considering bringing a new pet into your home, please adopt. Every adoption saves a pet's life – and those who have adopted pets will agree that the pet saved knows it. Shelter pets are grateful to have a warm, loving home and demonstrate that appreciation to their new "parents" with undying loyalty.

Whether searching for a mixed breed or purebred, shelters and rescues offer a broad selection. If searching for a specific breed, other resources include breed-specific rescue organizations, which are located across the nation.

Editor's comment: Keep in mind that mixed breeds offer a delightful potpourri of personality traits – and many owners claim that a mutt is the "best breed" out there!
