Kat5 Animal Rescue
http://semperfifarm.com/kat5/
This organization was founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
It's goal is to rescue animals abandoned or lost due to natural
disasters. If you lost a loved pet in such a situation, you may
want to contact these people. They do not have there own website
but show animals up for adoption on the given link. Thousands of
animals were saved, moved to shelters, and then were moved on into
other safe havens around the United States. Their purpose is rescue,
not reunion, but they might help if you appeal to them.

from their families due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina,
with their original families. They may also contain postings of
pets found without means of identification.

PET HARBOR
http://www.petharbor.com/
PetHarbor provides Lost and Found Services for the public as well
as Adoption options from shelters and rescue groups. Its goal is
to help animals find their way to their new or past homes. The site
is a little difficult to decipher at first. Unlike petfinder, it
provides no individual page URL's. It provides shelter listings
by localities and options for persons who have lost and who have
found pets. Once a dog gets an ID number, it can be searched for
by that number. Because of its hourly updates, I would check Pet
Harbor before checking Petfinder.

lost pet services Some resouces have MAR (missing animal response)

scent trail of lost dogs while others offer consultations.
PETFINDER.COM
http://www.petfinder.com/classifieds/classifiedhop.html
This breaks down to: Pets Found; Lost Pets; and Adoptable Pets (People
also list pets here that they find as strays as an alternative to
taking them to the shelter.)
These dogs are issued an ID and a verbal description is posted.
In a recent effort to find a listing, I was frustrated by not finding
a means to search by ID number and not finding that ID number in
the state in which it should have been.
http://www.petfinder.com
This Petfinder site used by shelters and rescue groups to post adoptable
dogs. Many strays not claimed by their families end up being posted
for adoption at Petfinder. This site should be checked routinely
when searching for any missing dog! Click on "Pet Search"
(as if you were looking to adopt a dog of a certain breed) and you
can see photos of various available dogs. It would be great if someone
had the time to simply research posts to the Amber Alert list and
cross check them to the Petfinder website-- even up to two weeks
after a missing dog is posted. They might just find lost dogs listed
for adoption on this site! :)
