Special Needs Animals

What is a Special Needs Animal?

Special Needs Animals are animals that through some accident need the medical attention that we are not normally funded for in the animal shelter budget. The money that is donated from people go into a special Medical Donation Fund that is not part of the budgeting by the City of Cut Bank. The monies are only used for medical fees of animals in need.

7/3/09 Dalia is a special needs animal. She was playing when she fell between two boards and dislocated her right rear knee. She was taken to Grass Winds Veterniary Clinic, where Dr. Ethel was able to relocated her little 6 week old knee. She has had a series of casts to keep her from losing the use of her leg. Dalia is a success story! Medical bills mount suddenly with an injury like Dalia.

Luckily, Dalia has a guardian angel, Linda Metzger of Great Falls, who sponsored all of Dalia's medical bills and adoption fees in honor of Joe and Tina Gauthier.

7/10/09 Puddy Tat is a special needs animal. She was minding her kittens between the backyard and garage, when her tail was smashed. A strong gust of wind caught the garage door and slammed shut on her tail. Animal Control Officer Joe had to pry the door open with a screwdriver. Special Services officer, Tina, took Puddy Tat to the Grass Winds Veterinary Clinic for twelve stitches.

Luckily, Puddy Tat has a guardian angel, Linda Metzger of Great Falls, who sponsored all of Puddy Tat's medical bills and adoption fees in honor of Joe and Tina Gauthier.

9/17/2007 Yoda has quite a story to her ten day old life. First, her brother, sister and she were taken from their mother at three days by young children and taken across town. They were taken back to their feral mother by the boys and the Animal Control officer. Luckily for the kittens, their mother returned to nurse them.

Then, poor Yoda got caught between boards and her mother was not able to save her. She moved her brother and sister and left Yoda to die. A kind lady found Yoda and called Animal Control, who went to her house and picked up our young Jedi. Yoda has the fighting spirit. She is being fed every few hours and growing stronger. It is hard to say when Yoda will be available for adoption. She is in a fight for her very life.

9/30/07 Update: Yoda is developing very slow because of her motherless condition. She could use sponsor to help pay for her medical and nutrional needs.

10/12/07 Update: Yoda is finally starting to grow hair on her little tummy. She will be a small cat all of her life, because of her rough beginning of life! She is one special kitten. We will have her with us for longer than eight weeks. Yoda looks to be about three weeks old at this stage instead of her real age of five weeks.

Though her time was short on this earth. Yoda knew nothing of hatred, fear or homelessness that so many animals are treated. She was loved from the moment she entered the shelter until the day that she died. We miss her, but will love again.

DOB 9/8/07-1/19/08 Cause of death: Feline Leukemia

July 2005 We have completed the transport of Bear, a nine year old Norwegian Elkhound. He has been adopted to the Jelka Arnesen Elkhound Retirement Resort. Bear will have a permanent home where he will be loved and cared for until he crosses the Rainbow Bridge.

Bear was transported in July 2005 and adopted by the Jelka Arnesen Elkhound Retirement Resort. Here is our latest report:

Bear is doing GREAT. He has fit in so well playing with my other 15 dogs. I love this guy! Bear is a wonderful addition to my family. He sleeps beside my bed on rug. The vet visit showed that Bear has an enlarged prostate. Bear eats a special diet of Cannidae dry with raw beef. He wears a collar with tags and is microchipped, so that he is able to find his way home. I will be happy to send you pics. Just let me get a minute to do it. And...I will send photos, I promise. Just not today. Heheheheh.. Lora

My Bear dog lost his fight with prostate cancer on Saturday, June 14, 2008. He will be missed. He slept right beside my bed every single night since he came here. Last Wednesday, he could no longer make it up the stairs to my bedroom. He was a loyal and faithful companion to me. Thank you for playing a part in getting him here...
Lora

Thank you Lora for the years of love and comfort that you gave to Bear. We share in your sorrow and loss.
