VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES
 
Unless otherwise stated, required commitments are for a minimum term of 6 months. Training will be provided if required. In many cases, training is mandatory to participation in the activity.
 
  • Special events: Help out at events as a CAS Representative in the community: Home 4 the Holidays, Annual Dog Walk and Dog Talent Fair, etc. Required Commitment: 1-2 events yearly. No training required
  • Shelter Tasks: Hands on work with shelter animals. Requires Extra Training as a Dog Walking or Cat Socializing volunteer. Required Commitment: Cat – 1 hr/week for 6 months, Dog – 3 hr/week for 6 months
  • Afternoon Cleaning (MUST BE 18 years of age): Extra help cleaning due to the amount of animals or to allow staff vacations. Includes cleaning cat cages, litter boxes, dumping trash, washing dog and cat dishes. Requires extra training that you receive on your first scheduled shift.
  • Maintenance & repairs: On call to make general repairs around the shelter. You supply the tools & knowledge; we supply the materials…if needed. Also assist with organizing food sheds; spring & winter clean-up events.
  1. Errands: Scheduled in advance to help with vet runs, donation site runs, recycling, & other basic errands. Please tell us what type of vehicle you drive. Sign up for one or all errands – just remember, you are committing for 6 months… Limited training required.
  2. Aluminum can recycling is every Monday/Wednesday/Friday (pick-up Truck recommended). The cans are taken to Pacific Steel, which is just down the road.
  3. A volunteer who pick up used ink jet cartridges and toner cartridges from businesses throughout Cut Bank. Must pick up cartridges once a month.
  4. A volunteer who lives in Cut Bank to develop "dog bank" routes. The "dog banks" are placed in businesses to collect change from customers.
  5. Collecting donated dog and cat food 1/week (Wednesday at 10:00a.m.) from Target, Wal-Mart & Costco (we call Costco to see if they have any that week). Pick-up or large SUV ideally as there is a lot of damaged bags that get donated.
  6. Updating of bulletin boards that we have around town (we have one at Wal-Mart and are planning more), every two weeks. Requires internet access and color printer.
  • Outreach: Visiting various retirement homes & classrooms within our community with an animal from the shelter. Educating the public about the shelter and humane animal care. Minimum training required.
  • Fostering: Outside care for animals too sick or too young to safely care for them at the shelter. Fostering can be from a term of 2 wks. to 2 mo. CAS provides all the necessities during the fostering. Required training and application process. Required Commitment: remain on list for 1 year, after which you can recommit as you choose.
  • Office: Involves various office tasks including, but not limited to; assisting with newsletter mailings, stuffing envelopes, collating multi-piece mailings, photocopying, etc. No training required ? Required commitment: 1-2 mailings yearly (we do 4-6 annually).
  • Computer Tech/Web Master: Designing a new web page and will need a tech support/webmaster to assist with managing the site. Train us! Required commitment of 1 year to get consistent page established.
