Cut Bank Planting and Pruning Workshop

-Workshop will include an indoor presentation on pruning and planting techniques and tools in the morning, 10:00 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. at Joe Meagher Civic Center followed by an outdoor, hands-on pruning and planting component, 1 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Cut Bank Animal Shelter where participants will be given the opportunity to practice what they have learned. The workshops will be taught by DNRC Service Forester David Jones.

-Workshops will be held regardless of weather.

-Equipment - Some pruning and planting tools will be provided, however please bring your own hand pruning tools and garden shovels, if you have them. Bring gloves and dress for the weather including comfortable shoes or boots.

-Workshop is open to the public, so please give Tina, Urban Forestry Board Chair, a call at 873-4624 or email cutbankanimalshelter@hotmail.com. Registration is necessary to determine number of handouts to have available.

Workshop that will focus on the following matters:

  • Understanding the importance and value of a healthy urban forest
  • Identifying invasive and destructive insects & diseases
  • Pest monitoring and survey techniques
  • Implementing a pest reporting and protocol system

Workshop attendees will learn basic skills and gather information such as:

  • Tree identification
  • Proper tree selection, planting and maintenance techniques
  • Issues associated with trees already growing in our urban environment
  • Tips for improving sustainability, vigor and hardiness for our urban trees

The workshop is for any and all community members, master gardeners, and public, commercial or private workers in the landscape/nursery/irrigation/tree care/pesticide applicator sectors.
